Leave your apartment.
It’s sunrise.
A miracle
every squirrel and deer
and pine and pigeon knows
is happening
and you’re asleep.
Cubed in by dead wood and dry wall.
Your few small windows
won’t bear it to you.
You need to feel the air change.
The sudden smell of light
smacking ferns
licking cement
spilling onto the parkways.
This is
what you’ve been
waiting for.
The darkness is gone
for now.
